OFF THE TRAIL: The Best Things Aren’t Always Planned
There’s something magical about the moments that weren’t on the calendar.
Like when I head over to the neighbor’s to borrow a cup of flour, but somehow end up at their dinner table, eating spaghetti and enjoying a new specialty cocktail, laughing until my mascara runs, and not even realizing it’s a school night until someone finally checks the clock. No RSVP, no pressure, just real connection. Those kinds of nights stick with you.
That same spirit is what makes small towns special—and it’s exactly why you don’t want to miss this weekend’s Daddy Daughter Dance at the Waterville Community Center. Maybe you haven’t bought a ticket. Maybe you didn’t even know about it until just now. But hey—some of the best memories happen when you least expect them, right?
The theme this year is Boots & Bling, and my girls and I are bringing Broker—yes, the actual horse and our boutique’s namesake—to stand at the door and greet every little cowgirl and her favorite dance partner. He’ll be ready for hugs, photos, and a whole lot of sparkle.
And speaking of photos—my sister-in-law, Brittany Tilleraas of BMW Photography Productions, will be on hand capturing all the sweet moments from the night. She’s the talented photographer behind this memory: my dad and my two daughters at last year’s dance. I’ve shared it in the collage above, because honestly, it just sums up everything that matters.
This dance is more than a night of twirls and glitter—it’s a fundraiser for the neighborhood I grew up in. It’s a celebration of family, community, and yes, a little bit of cowboy charm.
Before I sign off, I want to give a heartfelt thank you to the incredible Waterville Community Development Group who makes this event happen. Your time, creativity, and commitment do not go unnoticed. It’s because of your behind-the-scenes magic that our small-town kids get big-time memories. Thank you for putting your hearts into every detail—from decorations and music to ticket sales and clean-up. You're the real sparkle behind Boots & Bling.
[Last year's theme was Barbie.]
So if you’re looking for a sign to make a last-minute memory, this is it. Dust off the boots, throw on the bling, and come make a night worth remembering.
