I could provide many more examples of how 4-H DIRECTLY helped groom me for this dream I’m living; for starters, though, I recall the emphasis that was put on the written documentation behind Home Improvement and Visual Arts projects I exhibited at the Allamakee County Fair.

Each time I opened my ”Business Plan” Word doc on my computer, I recalled my step-mom Niki helping me carefully keep track of the costs involved and steps I took to complete each of those 4-H projects.

Another supporting observation, I recollect several judges asking me, ”What will you do differently next time?” What a great question to get the wheels turning in a child’s developing mind!

Learning the importance of putting my heart and soul into a quality project with the understanding that a professional was going to critique my work inevitably gave me the confidence and drive to strive for excellence.
