At what age will my child be strong enough to muck an entire stall by herself? Or focused enough? Or determined enough? This past weekend I put Paysen to work cleaning out the two-week-old bedding of the lean-to in the horse pasture. It was originally built as a windbreak only, but leave it to me to fully bed it for Broker and Jollypop. First, she couldn’t lift the pitchfork without losing the “apples,” second, the pitchfork was too heavy, then she was bored and kept telling me, “Mom, you really deserve a break.” Eventually, I sent her up the hill to Dad as I finished mucking out the wet bedding and “apples.” Maybe the real question here should be more like: “why aren’t horses smart enough to poop outside?”
Maybe I'll start Paysen off with a goal of mucking the lean-to with a prize of these absolutely beautiful glittering pink Heart of Dixie Boots by Roper. The square toes are just like mom's but the colors are so much more fun and the zippers make the boots easily accessible.
